If so, the Data Matters Data Science Summer Workshop Series is for you.

The format: 1 week of courses (2-day courses on Monday/Tuesday and Thursday/Friday and one-day course on Wednesday). Choose courses to meet your needs and interests; come for a day or stay all week.

The location: William and Ida Friday Center for Continuing Education, 100 Friday Center Drive, Chapel Hill. Most courses will also include hands-on lab sessions on the UNC-Chapel Hill campus.

You’ll learn about:

  • Data science, its goals, techniques and concepts
  • Strategies for managing big data
  • The fundamentals of social network analysis
  • Data management and analysis tools, such as Hadoop and SAS
  • Using large-scale data networks
  • Data mining and machine learning
  • Data visualization
  • Predictive analysis

Registration includes:

  • A evening kick-off reception at Top of the Hill in downtown Chapel Hill
  • Lunch each day, plus a lunchtime speaker on Wednesday, June 26
  • Transportation to and from the Friday Center and UNC for lab work

Each course costs $ 300 per day for NCDS members, $ 350 per day for non-members.
