Wednesday October 4, 2017 @ 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm EDT

DataBytes is an NCDS-sponsored lunchtime webinar series that gives our members and the larger data community the chance to discuss the most pressing and interesting issues in data science. Webinars are generally held on the first Wednesday of every month, excluding July. All webinars are easily accessible from the NCDS homepage and from this page.

For the October talk, Shannon McKeen, consultant for the National Consortium for Data Science, will present.

Abstract: Media reports showcase that we are in the midst of a Big Data revolution that will impact all of our lives. To date, much of the research around this revolution has focused specifically on Data Science; however, in this roundtable, we will discuss the Data Economy.

The North Carolina Office of Science, Technology and Innovation recently partnered with the National Consortium for Data Science to investigate the Data Economy in North Carolina by determining the current role of data science in the state’s economy; the potential of data science to change the economy; and to what extent Big Data is an actual industry or an enabler of all industries.
